Creed III Review: Knockout the Ego

Movies  Creed III Review: Knockout the Ego  By Dylan Barbee SPOILER WARNING Release Date: 3/3/2023 Micheal B. Jordan marks his directorial debut with Creed III , the ninth installment of the Rocky series and the first movie without an appearance from Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone). However, Creed III is able to stand on its own two legs in the ring without Slyvester Stalone as this film signals the clear passing of the torch from Rocky Balboa to Adonis Creed (Micheal B. Jordan).  After winning the WBC World Heavyweight Championship against Viktor Drago in Creed II , Adonis decides to retire and enjoy the life he has built for himself with his family in a luxurious mansion in the Hollywood Hills. He still dominates in the boxing world as he coaches several skilled young fighters acting as the mentor Rocky once was for him. Adonis’s mindset changes though when he comes across an old childhood friend, Damien Anderson (Jonathan Majors).  As kids Adonis and Damien were raised in a shel

John Wick: Chapter 4 Review: An Example of Why Pure Action Films Don’t Work Anymore

Movies  John Wick: Chapter 4 Review: An Example of Why Pure Action Films Don’t Work Anymore  By Dylan Barbee SPOILER WARNING Release Date: 3/24/2023 John Wick: Chapter 4 takes itself too seriously. From the awkward lack of dialogue spoken by protagonist John Wick (Keanu Reeves) to the oddly prolonged fight scenes throughout, it seems like director Chad Stahelski tries to make us care about a story that we are told so little about. Like many recent action movies released (mostly recent Marvel movies), John Wick: Chapter 4 relies on action to lazily drag along its story instead of nurturing a complex storyline.      In John Wick: Chapter 4, a high and increasing bounty on his head causes John Wick to be hunted by the criminal organizations within the High Table. Simultaneously, Wick hopes to eliminate his involvement in the High Table by killing all of them and starting a normal life. At the end of the third film, Wick murdered a member of the High Table group on the grounds of the

Music  Gumbo Album Review: Young Nudy Devoured  By Dylan Barbee   Photo from @youngnudy on Instagram Release Date: 2/27/2023 Since dropping “Yeah Yeah” in 2016 on his Slimeball album and then collabing with his cousin 21 Savage to create the rambunctious but popular trap song “ EA ” in 2017, Young Nudy’s artistic styles have only become more prominent through recent years. His voice is very distinguishable especially when his flow seems effortless over unworldly trap production. Nudy also continues to surround himself with other eminent names who have defined the trap genre we experience today like Playboi Carti, Pi’erre Bourne, and Lil Uzi Vert. His latest release “Gumbo” has 13 songs all named after various foods that make up a runtime of a 44 minute listen. Most songs consist of grungy trap drums and basslines over hypnotic synths. Young Nudy continues to rap about his lifestyle in Zone 6, Atlanta where he encounters gang violence when slanging a gun.  Young Nudy’s flows on this pro

Mansion Musik Album Review: It’s Time for Trippie Redd to Go Back to His Old Ways

Music  Mansion Musik Album Review: It’s Time for Trippie Redd to Go Back to His Old Ways By Dylan Barbee Release Date: 1/20/2023 Trippie Redd has long been looked at as one of the most profound emo-rap soundcloud pioneers of the late 2010s. A young teenager who once filled his music with an aesthetically bright production scheme and his impressive vocal range singing about love, heartbreak, and addiction now seems to be in some sort of phase; throwing together experimental albums. From his work on the ongoing A Love Letter to You series and LIFE’S A TRIP, Trippie Redd was able to gain a lot of attention from the rap industry, placing himself high on a pedestal compared to other young artists at the time. However, since 2020 Trippie Redd has released multiple projects trying to showcase his versatility. Trippie Redd attempted to create a half rock and half RnB album on Neon Shark vs Pegasus as well as tagging along artists like Kashdami on a predominately new and suddenly popular sou
